Position Title: Marine Field Technician


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position requires frequent regional travel to support field operations involving:
  • Install, maintain and service marine data collection systems. Operate sensors, data loggers, Communication and DC power systems.
  • Perform shop tasks including the repair, cleaning, painting and preparation of marine hardware.
  • Monitor the performance of field data collection systems, evaluate marine and weather sensor data.
  • Prepare field service reports. Maintain equipment inventories, shipping logs and instrument history logs. Prepares written communication with clients and other team members.

  • Assist with instrument checkout, testing and troubleshooting tasks. Preparation of field equipment, packing/shipping of field equipment, tools, and supplies, travel to/from work sites.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and compatibility with other staff members, customers and contractor personnel at worksites.
  • Support other staff members and projects. Candidate will be expected to develop skills and advance in capabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A.S. or B.S. degree in a science based program. Strong interest and understanding of the marine environment and weather.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a related field, or similar military experience.
  • Experience with computers, interfacing with electronic equipment and Internet tools. Familiarity with a wide range of common computer programs.
  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of simple mechanical systems. Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools and electronic test equipment (trade skills). Maintains equipment and work areas in an orderly and professional manner.
  • Writing, record keeping and documentation skills.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in a challenging environment and see difficult tasks through to completion. Willingness to travel frequently throughout the Mid-Atlantic area.
  • Ability to work independently and professionally in the field and office.

  • The position is a full time, salaried position.
